Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas is outraged by Justice Samuel Alito’s leak of the draft opinion to overturn Roe v. Wade. He decreed that the court would not be “bullied.” He is worried that respect for institutions is eroding. Damn straight it is!

This justice knows about bullying since he was at the center of a judicial firestorm in 1991. Anita Hill testified of his sexual bullying at Thomas’ senate confirmation hearing. For me, the confirmation of Thomas was a clear indication that the characters being confirmed for the U.S. Supreme Court had little to do with ethics, justice and upholding the law. When should we stop excusing the Russian invasion?

The Russian invasion of Ukraine has been met with strange responses on the part of segments of the USA Left and among many progressives.  While, generally speaking, there has been a strong condemnation of the Russian invasion, there has simultaneously been a tendency to excuse the Russian invasion and place the responsibility for the aggression solely on the US government (and NATO).  Not only is such an analysis factually inaccurate, but it arises from an analytical error rooted in a downplaying of the entire issue of the right of nations to self-determination.
