Avenues of Activism

An Oral History Project

From May 2013 to May 2014, the Teens Make History Exhibitors conducted the Avenues of Activism Oral History Project. I was one of thirteen local activists  interviewed who were involved in the fights for civil rights, labor rights, and LGBT rights. Through these interviews, the Exhibitors aimed to collect and share the stories behind historic movements for change, as well as consider how activism continues to shape St. Louis today.

The hostile takeover by the state

The attempt to seize local control from the citizens of St. Louis will be met with organized—and might I add–hostile resistance (think pension, think future raises). That’s because citizens voted for local control of their police department in 2013 by a majority of citizens.
