The execution of Corey Ruiz is symptomatic of rogue enforcement under the Trump regime. We can no longer use “law” and “enforcement” in the same breath with these people, and we should not. Doing so will help us to understand better that the MAGA monsters have a blatant disrespect for the law and therefore cannot be expected to uphold it. Emboldened by henchmen at the top, the minions on the street level are exerting their power.
This administration has given the green light to hate and violence. The January 6 insurrection was an abomination in itself. When the so-called president pardoned murderers, attempted murderers, burglars, trespassers, and seditionists, it was an absolute disgrace.
Since then, other corporate lawbreakers have been pardoned, like Changpeng Zhao and BitMex. We now know that these pardons were the result of roundabout payments to Trump. By the way, he is the first president to ever pardon a corporation. The redefinition of who gets a presidential pardon has opened the door to criminals convicted of securities, Medicaid, and Medicare fraud, along with tax evasion and other corporate crimes.
ICE is on the prowl to make its mandated quota of rounding up 10,000 undocumented and dangerous human beings. The number of assaults and shootings continues to escalate. The latest murders were Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero in Maine and Lorenzo Salgado Araujo in Texas there, who weren’t even the intended targets. Oops! won’t bring these men back to their beloved families.
I’m laying all this out to say that state violence is being encouraged and sanctioned on all levels. This makes it almost impossible to get justice for Corey Ruiz and others like him. We need a different, aggressive offensive to save lives, curb civilian violence, and protect this democracy.
Our first battleground is the electoral one. We must oust any elected official who has aligned themselves with Trump and his MAGA agenda. This also means fighting against the voter suppression tactics of the Trumpites.
Our second battleground is our neighborhoods. We must make the time to get to know our neighbors and to manifest the mantra, “we keep us safe,” into reality. This means ensuring that essential services are available.
We, the People, are the last viable and functioning branch of government. The Executive Branch is a malignant body; the courts are corrupt; and the Congress is disturbingly dysfunctional. This democracy is on life support. Woke people are the emergency medical team, and we face challenges ahead.
The current picture is painstakingly clear, and the options are few. There’s no one to pass the buck to; the buck stops with us. The assignments have been put right up in our faces, so we don’t have to guess what’s wrong and what we have to do. I am confident that over the next few months, there will be a renewed and expanded wave of citizen-driven activities that will be a game-changer. We watched and waited long enough. Now it’s time to act and act decisively on behalf of our country and our collective futures.

Saving the tools of Democracy
Most voters take the valued tools of democracy for granted. We can access them readily without thinking about how society got them, or who’s responsible for protecting them. The foundational, electoral, and direct democracy tools are deeply integrated into the fabric of society. It has only been under the current regime that significant attention has been given to understanding what these tools are and the potential consequences of losing them.
Trump’s War and its Brown Casualties
Does citizenship only count when you die for this country? We can expect more deadly conflicts with ICE as the midterm elections get closer.
