Today mayor slay will sign the historic civilian oversight bill into law. And NO, I will NOT be there despite my leadership in this long and tumultuous campaign. This mayor has undermined the process all along the way and I’m sure it won’t stop after the signing. It is the People driving this process not the mayor. For the haters, a reminder that the Coalition Against Police Crimes & Repression and its allies went up against the mayor and the white police officers association with little resources and WON. That is historic in and of itself. Acknowledge that.
The hostile takeover by the state
The attempt to seize local control from the citizens of St. Louis will be met with organized—and might I add–hostile resistance (think pension, think future raises). That’s because citizens voted for local control of their police department in 2013 by a majority of citizens. That historic vote was the result of more than a decade of tireless organizing under the leadership of the Coalition Against Police Crimes and Repression (CAPCR).
