Black women have been the backbone of the Democratic Party for decades. We have saved the party at critical times and have little to show for it. In the last presidential election, we showed up nearly 90% strong. The party leadership has ignored criticism of their racial and gender biases, and now it’s all coming to a head. It’s shake-up time.

A record number of African American candidates are running for governor this election season. Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley is one of them. Polls show a close race between him and his Republican rival. I am wondering whether this is another case of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and the Democratic National Committee outmaneuvering themselves at the expense of candidates of color, especially women.

In the current racist political climate and with MAGA at the helm, Black folks seem to be one legislative stroke away from being full-fledged citizens.
