The People’s Response: Mass Emergency Meeting – 3/21/26

It has been over 290 days since an EF-3 tornado tore through parts of St. Louis and legislators from the St. Louis City, State of Missouri and Federal government have failed at getting adequate resources to tornado victims.

We must demand more for North City, our North Star! These organizing meetings hold elected officials accountable, center community narratives, and ensure North City residents are setting the agenda for recovery.

Last meeting we heard from representatives of the Board of Aldermen, this meeting State legislators will be in the room to hear from you!

We know the injustices our communities face didn’t start with the tornado and don’t exist on just the local level. North City has been divested from for decades and with the recent attacks coming from Missouri State elected officials, our communities are at risk of facing compounded hardships. Politicians like Gov. Kehoe and House Speaker Patterson stole away our paid sick days, forced another tricky ballot to ban abortion to undo our votes from 2024, froze the minimum wage, tried to dismantle the People’s Initiative Petition process, gerrymandered our congressional districts to silence Black, Brown, and working class voters, and have been doubling down on their attacks on trans and gender expansive young people.

Now they want to hike up taxes on us so the most rich can get even richer – at the expense of us, making tornado recovery initiatives even harder to fight for.

WE ARE FIGHTING BACK! The People’s Response is joining the regional call for a MASS EMERGENCY MEETING. Together — including all races, genders, and backgrounds — we will demand a state budget that respects the will of the people, invests in our futures, and makes the welfare of the people the supreme law.

Background Information:

Since September thousands of Missourians from all across the state have shown up to the state capitol to SHOW politicians what democracy actually looks like. Not to mention we have marched and rallied in arctic temperatures to keep masked federal ICE agents and their terror out of our communities. Now they want to hike up taxes on working families so the elite minority can get even richer at the expense of the everyday services we need to make a good living.
