Making St. Louis white again gathered speed after the election of trump. Missouri Republicans already had a trifecta in the state. They control the House, the Senate and the Governor’s seat. The trump victory emboldened their quest for white power.
The dates of May 16, 2023, November 5, 2024 and April 5, 2025 are memorable ones for woke people in St. Louis. These are the dates when prosecutor Kim Gardner was forced to resign, and when Congresswoman Cori Bush and Mayor Tishaura Jones were forced out of office. Comptroller Darlene Green was considered collateral damage. All were Black women who were the first to hold their respective offices. They all shared a common reform agenda, and all shared a defiant attribute that made them targets of the white patriarchal system.
After the defeat of Mayor Jones, their demise was rejoiced on social media by former Missouri Attorney General and now U.S. Senator Eric Schmitt. He gloated that one by one, they had all been eliminated. “Poof…like magic,” he smirked.
It was not magic. It was a methodical and calculated plan that began with character assassination, disinformation, amplification of their missteps and bad decisions, then engaging other opportunists and misguided Black folks to fan the flames.
It is with this backdrop that the state legislature passed a law to seize local control of the St. Louis police department. This was a reform that won in 2013 after a twenty-year struggle by citizens. Taking a page from trump, state and local officials are ignoring and reversing the wishes of the voters and laws of the country.
The trump oligarchy is proving that it has power and will abuse that power. It has shared that playbook with its power-hungry minions on the state and local levels. St. Louis will not be its only victim. This is a cautionary tale to let you know that Blue seats, districts or offices are not exempt from the Red pestilence.
The thuggish and bullying tactics being used by the billionaires to wreck the U.S. democracy are brazen and unapologetic. Lawmakers are bowing to them. Big law firms are cowering. The courts are paralyzed. This means the rest of us will have to fight doubly hard to stand our ground, defend our wins and advance a strategy to defeat the right. This means those who believe in democracy will have to accelerate our efforts because the longer it takes us to build a formidable, united front against fascism, the more ground we lose.
We are witnessing the making of a real, live dictator. As trump celebrates his upcoming birthday with a multi-million-dollar military parade, let each of us reflect on what we’ve done in trump’s first 100 Days to halt the decimation of the U.S. Constitution and the destruction of civil society.

The MAGA Virus has Infected St. Louis. Who’s Next?
Most people forget that Missouri was a slave state. The state would like to forget that part of its history and pretend that because it’s in the middle of the country, that makes it Midwest. It’s ugly history which includes the infamous Dred Scott case in St. Louis, which makes the state more Southern than Midwestern. It was ripe for the MAGA virus to make St. Louis white again.

We can no longer ignore the preponderance of evidence it’s time to invoke Amendment 25
The constitutional crisis that people kept warning the world about is now front and center.

The St. Louis governance model: Default to plantation
Former Missouri State Attorney General and now Senator Eric Schmitt was crystal clear in his analysis of the campaign to rid St. Louis of its Black female legislators. Sure, his post-election post was braggadocious in nature but do not get lost in the tone. Focus on the words which confirmed my declaration that there has been a campaign to rid St. Louis of any Black, forward-thinking elected officials, making St. Louis white again.
